About Me:

Hi there!

I'm Kaylynn Towne, a second year junior at Purdue University. I am studying Speech, Language, and Hearing Science and am also pursing a certificate in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. I intend to graduate in the spring of 2026.

After graduation, I plan on pursing a Master's Degree to become a Speech Language Pathologist. I am hoping to find a summer internship before going onto graduate school!

I'm an adapter. I lead others in a positive manner, work well with other individuals, and am self driven to learn solo. I am constantly seeking opportunities to influence and impact others.

Outside of my education, I enjoy painting, pottery, reading, long walks and investing in my health.

Software :

Praat Software: I have a detailed understanding on how to use this platform in order to analyze and create spectrograms. These spectrograms allows me to further examine speech sounds, placement of articulation, voicing, and waveforms. To the right, I have input an image of a spectrogram for a visual explanation.

Leadership and Involvement

Volunteering:

Service to Others

I've always been engaged with my community; whether that be through cereal drives for homeless shelters, organizing and being apart of community service, or opening my time and resources to others. I love to give and it's one of the many reasons I picked Speech Language Pathology to pursue. I hope that through this career, I'm daily reminded how I can impact and be of service to others.

Oral English Proficiency Program:

Intercultural Communication Partner for OEPP. I have spent over 30 hours volunteering with this program over the last two semesters. In this program, undergraduate students help international graduate students improve their English communication skills. Through this, we are aiming to help international graduate students become effective teaching assistants at Purdue University.

Experience

2023

2024

In May, I had job shadowed a Speech Language Pathologist at LaPorte High School. I spent the school day observing her interactions and therapy with each student. Through this, I took away how each child's speech therapy needs are different. I also truly enjoyed this experience! I loved connecting with each student.

In October, I was apart of a Preschool Screening Day. This opportunity targeted some aspects of Audiology with a hearing screening, but we focused on speech and language screenings for each child. I filled out screening forms, took notes on connected speech, social interaction, and fluency. The full evaluation was roughly an hour per child. Furthermore we also counseled with the parents to review their child's development.
